How much faster will the M3 be? It should run about $20,000 more and from what I've read it appears the 135i will almost have the same performance!

With minor tweaks the 135i will be a lot faster :)

m3 just doesn't have the potential that the 1er has. Its already too high strung. I suppose the m3 is more of a raw sports car but the 1er will blow its doors off with minor mods. 6 throttle bodies FTL! Direct injected TT FTW!

edit: oo i just remembered the title "08 vs 08" the m3 is V8 this year huh? soo 8 throttle bodies FTL! :)

Car and Driver has the M3 on the cover page this month! You get a full view of it! The car looks great, has the M6 carbon fiber roof, and a lot of other neat options but for the price point, I'd MUCH rather have a 35k 1 series + 2k reflash with exhaust= about 400rwhp! Then maybe some wider wheels/tires and ROLL!

Here in Germany on the road courses at BMW Welt the 135 took the M3 except in the straights.
I am looking at the Dinan exhaust and ECU reburn when I get back to the states in Jun.

Normally aspirate Vs turbos... from years of tuning / racing, the "best" really boils down to multiple personal preferences / factors.
If you are talking about bang / buck, teh 135i definitely comes in as a very good contender, esp. if you drop a little $$$ in it for tuning / go fast parts: you can have an M3 eater for a lot less money, and reliable if you go with someone like Dinan.
Untouched, the M3 is a superior car.
you can turbo / SC an M3 and then the money / HP wars start... but for balance / weight distribution / tunabbility / $/HP , it is hard to go wrong wit hteh 135i....

The M3 will always be faster and more powerful. Its BMW's flagship car. Yes, a highly tuned 135i may be able to run one down on the dragstrip, but never will one be able to beat an M3 in an overall top speed test or in a closed course race. You guys are kidding yourselves if you think the 135i will even hold a candle to the M3. If you are asking if one could outperform an M3 with tons of bolt-ons and the M3 stayed stock, then that MAY be a possibility. But if you are comparing apples to apples, you didn't buy an M3 killer in your 135i. Sorry, not trying to be a buzzkill, just being honest.
