BMW X3 M Rendered; We Can Only Hope It Looks This Good

Can you have too much of a good thing? We sat here wondering that when this rendering of a BMW X3 M popped up, thinking perhaps that BMW is diluting the prestige that comes with the M-moniker by attaching it to every vehicle they possibly can. While the X3 M is still under consideration and nothing is set in stone, the folks at BimmerBoost are more ambitious and have rendered up what BMW could possibly release in the near future.

In all honesty, an X3 M makes a ton more sense than an X5 M or even an X6 M. The M3 is easily the most popular of all the M-vehicles and a transition over to BMW's lightest and most nimble SUV could be natural. Just packing a more potent powerplant than what's already offered in the N55 X35i would already be a winner; but combine that with the naturally more aggressive styling that all M-vehicles have to offer and we think BMW might have a winner.

There's no arguing that many feel if they're stuck with an SUV, they might as well have fun driving it. The X3 M could enter in a market segment at a competitive price, offering what very few other manufacturers even have the potential to.
BMW will take full advantage of investments in its MINI sub-brand, developing additional models based on those products that will be branded and sold as BMWs. According to a report by Automobile Magazine, the list includes a BMW version of the MINI Clubman and Countryman, as well as both a BMW and a MINI van. (Yes, the MINIvan).

It’s believed the new models will all be based on the upcoming front-drive/AWD platform that will first debut in the next-generation MINI Cooper. When the second-gen Clubman arrives it will be followed by the BMW Joy – an internal name given to what will essentially be the 1 Series Gran Turismo. After, a BMW 1 Series crossover will be based on the second-generation Countryman platform. And finally, there’s the MINI Traveler; a small van or MPV. A BMW version of this car will also be built to take on cars like the Mercedes B-Class ad next-generation Audi A2.

The first of these models are expected to start appearing around 2013.

BMW M3 GTS Officially the Fastest Production Bimmer Ever, But Not by Much

German automotive publication Sport Auto has finally gotten their hands on a new BMW M3 GTS, taking it to the Nürburgring to see how it stacks up as a serious sports car. For those not familiar with Sport Auto, they take almost every car to the Ring, where former race car driver turned magazine editor Horst von Saurma runs it through its paces.

And the lap time achieved by von Saurma is an incredible 7:48. For those keeping track, that's a huge 17 seconds faster than the standard BMW M3. Most certainly a few seconds of the 17 are made up thanks to the GTS's cup tires.

What's possibly more shocking, however, is that if you look back to the previous generation E46 M3 CSL, that car managed a 7:50 time – which until now made it the fastest production BMW. And as rare and pricey as the CSL was, it's nowhere near the $170,000 asking price for the M3 GTS.

BMW 1-Series M Coupe Laps Ascari Circuit (Video Inside)

New video of BMW’s 1 Series M Coupe has surfaced, and unfortunately, it doesn’t tell us much about the car. The engine note is hard to discern, other than it’s one of BMW’s signature inline six engines, and the interior looks like a pretty standard 1 Series. The current 135i is already a riot, and we can only imagine what more power and a better chassis will do for the baby BMW.

Expect the BMW 1-Series M Coupe to debut at the North American International Auto Show in January, with deliveries in Europe starting in Spring 2011.
